Children are the future. Also in Uganda. But only when they are able to go to school. Because a good education provides better opportunities for an independent life. Therefore the Astrid Uganda Foundation wants all children to be able tot got to school. How do we achieve that? By asking the local community how they would tackle this issue themselves. That works.

"If more organizations would accept that Africans take the lead in implementing ideas that affect themselves, a lot of donor money would be more successful than it is now" says Fred Obala, project manager on behalf ICUganda for Astrid Uganda Foundation.

The community around the Green Valley Nursery and Orphanage Centre School in Bwera is the first to benefit from the unique approach of the Astrid Uganda Foundation. Opening nieuwe Green Valley Orphanage School

De officiële opening van de Green Valley Orphanage School in Bwera was op woensdag 7 december. Voorzitter Jaap Taal van de Gemert-Bakelse Astrid Uganda foundation was erbij, samen met Sander van Zanten, Fred Obala en Hope Harriet van ICU. Het was echt een happening, schattingen lopen van 600 tot 900 aanwezigen. Hoofdgast was koning Charles Wesley Mumbere van het Rwenzururu Kingdom. Dat bestrijkt een deel van West-Oeganda en Oost-Congo.

ToerTocht Voor Uganda

Aan tafel zitten drie van de vier enthousiastelingen die mij vertellen over hun grootse project: een toertocht met de fiets van Tilburg naar de Großglockner in Oostenrijk, een wel 2500 meter hoge berg. Een toertocht voor het goede doel, de Astrid Uganda Foundation.

Veel scholen zetten zich in voor een goed doel. Kinderen, leerkrachten en ouders bedenken samen acties om geld in te zamelen.

Vrijwilligers van de Astrid Uganda Foundation vertellen in de klas graag over het leven en de dromen van hun Oegandese leeftijdsgenoten. En over hoe ze deze kinderen kunnen helpen.
