A couple of fanatic cyclists are planning a major fundraising event. A cycling trip to the Großglockner in Austria. It will take place from 2 to 10 June 2012. Will you join us?

In the sponsored team that signs up for the entire trip, there is room for twenty people. The number of people that want to sign up for the Großglockner High Alpine road only is unlimited. For the support team counts that many hands make light work.
Initiator Marco van Engelen calls it a sportive challenge with emotions. "I met Astrid Joosten during a tour of the beautiful Patagonia (Chile - Argentina). We had a lot of fun together and experienced a few adventures. After the trip we kept in touch regularly. Shortly after her return from Uganda I heard she became seriously ill. A few days later she was dead. This made a deep impression on me, and you feel powerless at that moment. That is my motivation to organize this sponsored trip for the Astrid Uganda Foundation.
Route
The cycling tour starts in Tilburg and runs through Milheeze (the former home of Astrid) to Hollersbach Austria. The ultimate goal is to Großlockner high Alpine route. The distance to Hollersbach is about 1.000 km. The team will cycle this distance in six days. That is about 150 to 200 km per day. After a rest day in Hollersbach (800 meters), all participants will complete the Großlockner high Alpine route together (altitude 2428 meters). It is also possible to join in for just this last part of the trip.

Marco van Engelen: "With this physical challenge, we want to raise (a lot) of for the Astrid Uganda Foundation. For the cycling team the contribution towards the expenses is € 550,- Plus a a mandatory minimum sponsorship contribution of € 500, -. For participants to the support team expenses are € 375, -. The sponsorship contribution is a free choice. The people who join us in Hollersbach for the high Alpine route pay € 150, -.
Participants get the necessary support and a sponsored shirt. For these shirts we have already found our first shirt sponsor: Lensen project designers (www.projectinrichting.nl). 
We are very happy about that. We still have room for a second shirt sponsor. I am preparing for this journey with Fer Brok, Peter Weiler and Willem Bijlefeld. In 2010 we start the training rides and promotion. I challenge you to join us and support the Astrid Uganda Foundation." Read more!
