The organization is in the hands of three experienced cyclists and a talented supporter. Each one has his own motivation for wanting to dedicate himself to Astrid and Uganda.
Marco van Engelen
“I got to know Astrid Joosten during a trip around the magnificent Patagonia (Chile – Argentina). We had a lot of fun and aventures back then. After this trip we stayed in touch and met at regular intervals. Shortly after Astrid’s return from Uganda I heard that she had become seriously ill. She died a few days later. This made a profound impression on me. At that moment you feel powerless. That is my reason for organizing this charity trip for the Astrid Uganda Foundation.”
Fer Brok
“As a cyclist you are pushing back frontiers by definition. In a way I have cherished the thought of cycling from Tilburg to Austria for a long time. Connecting this wish to a charity trip adds an extra dimension to this thought. I can do what I enjoy doing while supporting a good cause at the same time! The good cause adds a personal touch, as I learned a lot of Astrid’s final days through text messages. I feel privileged to be able to contribute to Astrid’s dream. It makes cycling for the Astrid Uganda Foundation very special to me. I hope we can raise a spectacular amount of money with a large group of cyclists, cycling in an amicable atmosphere focused on solidarity.”
Peter Weiler
“As a military I was sent to Afghanistan twice already. It is my job to support the organization as a fireman. Organizing and monitoring is in my blood. I will support the cyclists in a way that they will want for nothing. I know how important it is to be able to fall back on proper support when making such an effort. As a treasurer I will see to it that the financial transactions around this marvellous charity activity will be transparant. I am very glad to be able to make a contribution this way to the work of the Astrid Uganda Foundation.”
Willem Bijlefeld
“I think it is very important to set a goal. Whether it is for yourself or for someone else does not really matter. This is what makes the goal of the Astrid Uganda Foundation in combination with climbing the highest mountain in Austria so appealing to me. This foundation which solely dedicates itself to helping others with no rake-off must be cherished and supported.”
