In 2009 a visit to Uganda as a volunteer enriched my life. Some six months I worked side by side with the Ugandan population at a small foundation for orphanage and vulnerable children in Kampala.
I established two chicken farms and I helped with fund-raising. Thanks to the donations from many people I could also donate computers to a few primary schools and foundations and teach them how to use the computer.
Chicken and Fundraising
I led a frugal life without any luxurities, but I was surrounded by exceptionally warm-hearted and dedicated people. I felt and saw how much these people needed. And I experienced what difference you can make withh very little means. When I returned to the Netherlands I had no choice but to continue my work for Uganda.
That is the reason I have become secretary of the Astrid Uganda Foundation. In that capacity I think along about projects in Uganda that are worth supporting. I do my best to make that support possible, mainly by concentrating on communication. The good thing about this is that communication is what I do for a living. I hold a part-time job in the health sector and I am also a part-time entrepreneur as the owner of text agency 'Tekstbureau Letterijk'.
