The Projects

The projects the Astrid Uganda Foundation invests in, all contribute to the education of children and young people.

Directly, by building and furnishing schools.
Indirectly, by supporting the community the children live in. Because, like everywhere in the world, a better chance of an independent life starts with a good education.

Currently the Astrid Uganda Foundation is investing in three projects.


Green Valley Nursery and Primary Orphanage Centre School

About 400 boys and girls are divided over eight small classrooms. Nearly two thirds of the children are orphans because of HIV / AIDS and war. The other children are also in need of many things. No desks, little resources and facilities such as latrines. Too little food, too few school uniforms (mandatory in Uganda), no playground. Holes in the wall for windows and sand on the floor.

This is what Astrid Joosten and her husband Jaap Taal encountered in Bwera (Kasese district at the border of Congo) in June 2008.

Becoming Farmers again

Logo_Uganda_Red_CrossIn the Masindi district, the Astrid Uganda Foundation co-operates with the Ugandan Red Cross. The two projects are part of the program People Living with HIV / AIDS (PLWHA). Both projects ensure that children and youth can take care of themselves in the future. They learn how to grow food.

The Astrid Uganda Foundation invests in a new special school in the Masindi region: the Masindi Vocational Training Centre. This vocational school is a response to the request for help from the Masindi community itself. There is a growing number of uneducated young people. This makes them and their community very vulnerable. Together with the Uganda Red Cross we want to turn the tide with the new Masindi Vocational Training Centre.
