Children are the future. Also in Uganda. But only when they are able to go to school. Because a good education provides better opportunities for an independent life. Therefore the Astrid Uganda Foundation wants as many children as possible children to be able to go to school. How do we achieve that? By working with involved and reliable partners and by asking the local community how they would tackle this issue themselves. It works.
"If more organizations would accept that Africans take the lead in implementing ideas that affect themselves, a lot of donor money would be more successful than it is now" says Fred Obala, who was project manager from 2009 until 2011 on behalf ICUganda for Astrid Uganda Foundation and also director of Acoke Rural Development Initiatives (ARDI).
The community around the Green Valley Nursery and Orphanage Centre School in Bwera is the first to benefit from the unique approach of the Astrid Uganda Foundation. Since December 2011 there is a beautiful new school. Subsequently projects were started for children in a vulnerable agricultural community in Bweyale, a rehabilitation centre for former child soldiers in Lira and for vulnerable children in Kampala
